added two more points to bring victory to a
tangible distance. Energised by the crowd,
Gráinne Mulkerrin rose imposingly to
catch and clear at midfield and released a
revitalisedAilbhe Finnerty to solo towards
goal. Stymied by a heartstopping block,
under enormous physical attention, she
nevertheless cleared to an alert Clodagh
Kennedy who swerved, dodged and pointed
from virtually the corner flag. A rapid kick
out and Claregalway now besieged the
Salthill goal where Caoimhe Lally was
unrelenting in defence, blocking and
clearing while Claire Thornton and Mai
O’Sullivan were tireless in their efforts to
minimise all opposition scoring
opportunities. The combined interplay and
shooting accuracy of Carroll, Sadhbh
Moyles and Finnerty were manifest and
two points separated the sides to Salthill’s
favour 4-8 to 4-6. The treble was completed
for the first time for girls’ football in the
Club.
In the All-Ireland Skills competition,
Ailbhe Ní Ghríofa came through admirably
from her section notwithstanding the
inclement weather conditions and qualified
for the Division A Skills Final. Elaine
Carey was named Player of the Match in the
Galway County Championship while
Sallyanne Concannon picked up the best
tournament player in the Austin Stacks
Competition in Kerry.
